Match Results - Season 2015
The Ladder as of the last home and away matches
Wednesday 5 August
Total Game Points Total Match Points
Team 4 Thunderbirds 3097 84
“ “ 2 Fireball XL5 3014 80
“ “ 3 Stingray 3114 76
" " 1 Supercar 2873 48
The team numbers came about because this was the order in which these television shows came to air in the 1950s and 1960s. (They do not signify the positions on the ladder.)
Preliminary Final Result - 12 August
While well matched on paper, team Fireball XL5 was too good on the night and had a resounding win over team Stringray.
Fireball XL5 defeated Stingray
9 match pts - 177 game pts 3 match pts - 146 game pts
(Includes 2 match points for the win.)
Grand Final Result - Wednesday 19 August
Congratulations to team Fireball XL5, the victor over team Thunderbirds. While the end result was similar to the Preliminary Final regarding rubbers won and lost, the result could have gone either way. The number 1-2 pairs were the only rubbers where the win was reversed in their second rubber. The average points loss per rubber was only 1.8. A very close night indeed.
On a technical point, each pair plays 2 rubbers to make up 1 game but I think perhaps next year if we keep the finals format as is, I'll look at changing this to simply show 10 games and not 10 rubbers = 5 games. This will avoid confusion as to when a rubber becomes a game and also to make it easier to explain, particularly as we don't play the rubbers consecutively in the finals.
I hope you enjoyed the season and I look forward to seeing all of you next year.
